Mom’s Mexican Vintage Tablecloth

In honor of Cinco de Mayo I wanted to use one of my favorite vintage tablecloths that my mom embroidered when I was wee little or even pre-me, I’m not sure which. Anyway, it’s square and didn’t fit her table so she gave it to me.

Kitschy, Free, and Festive! What's not to love?

I used it a lot when I was a single gal and had the vintage enamel table I now use as my craft table as my kitchen table. The tablecloth fit like a charm.

But not now. My kitchen table is an oval table from Husband’s childhood. I favor tablecloths over place mats for this table because it’s so beat up I want to light it on fire lovely patina should not be ruined. Husband has such a strong attachment to this table that he’s Never.Going.To.Let.Me.Get.Rid.Of.It. (or paint it) never ever.

*sigh*

How to Make a Square Table Cloth Fit on a Round Table

I layered a round red tablecloth that is slightly shorter than my table (when I have a leaf in so the table seats four which is pretty much always these days) underneath Mom’s vintage table cloth.

Blitzkrieg approves!

Ta Da! Two short tablecloths layered to make one festive table covering. I got a couple of complements on the layering a design element and not as a all-of-my-tablecloths-are-in-the-laundry-hamper moment. My secret's safe as long as I don't blab about it on the Internet.

Oops.

You won't tell on me, will you?

Are you a placemat person or a tablecloth person?

  3. I am neither a table cloth or placemat person. I wipe the table if I spill something. But I like your table cloth!

  5. With three young boys (7, 5 and 2), I'm too scared to use tablecloths for fear that they'd be ruined. I especially wouldn't use them at this stage in my life if they had sentimental value, but I LOVE what you've done with yours! The layering is inspired. :)
