Green Mom’s Carnival suggested we hold a carnival on how well (or not) we are keeping our 2011 Green New Year’s Resolutions.
My resolution strategy is a bit different (of course, I march to the beat of different drummer even when hanging out with a group of women who collectively march to the beat to a different drummer. They are marching to a Samba beat. Me? I’m all over the Meringue.)
Instead of making a list of resolutions in January for the New Year I make one Small Green Change a month. That way, I’m not making resolutions just because all of the other cool kids are doing it (Trust me, the Green Moms are some of the coolest women I know!) I’m less likely to break my resolutions that way. Most of my 2011 One Small Green Changes stuck unlike making blanket resolutions in years past. If it’s not broke why fix it?
It is the half way point of my One Small Green Change year. Here’s the low down.
January - Use ClothPanty Liners I know this one skeeved many of you out, especially the men (sorry guys.) It’s working well and after the initial investment, saves me a ton of money. – KEEP
February - Use a NetiPot I love my neti pot more each time I use it. The salt water reduces inflammation that I think is stuffy gunk and helps me breath better. It was the only thing that helped my congested chest and blocked nose when I came home from Blissdom with the most wretched flu that had me in bed for three days with a fever (nicknamed The Blissdom Bug because we were giving it to each other like free kittens as swag.) When I have a migraine, my neti pot offers relief and my headache goes away more quickly. KEEP TIMES ONE THOUSAND
March - Clean with Steam I’m better about using my steam mop, especially after decluttering and reorganizing the utility room. However, with the insane amount of rain we had since April and won't stop the last thing I want to add to my kitchen is more moisture! Pantry ants love dampness more than giving out free kittens as swag at a blogger conference. I’m switching between the steam mop and a mop with a reusable microfiber head. NEEDS WORK
April - Use SLS Free Toothpaste This one is working great! Husband doesn’t have canker sores and my wallet is happy I found cheaper alternatives of SLS free toothpaste. KEEP
May Reusable Glass Drinking Straw I’m having a hard time with this one. I hate carrying a bunch of stuff in my purse and usually leave the glass straw out if I don’t think I’m going to use it. Of course that means I don’t have it for unplanned straw drinking needs. This happened more than I want to admit this month. I suck. NEEDS WORK.
What about you? Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? Are you keeping them?
