Happy Birthday to Me

Today is my birthday.

I shed my little girl sawdust and paint splattered armor.

I put on a confident and frilly woman’s dress. 

I make a birthday promise to stop cursing my curves

and embrace them.

My black vintage dress makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn

with a modern women’s sensibilities.

I smile.

My new dress has a secret.
