Green Moms Love The Non-Toxic Avenger

I’m a fan of Deanna Duke’s blog The Crunchy Chicken. She’s smart, funny, and not afraid to ask questions that spark heated debates on her blog and also inspire the New York Times to write an article on the topic. She’s. That. Cool.

That’s why I am excited to be part of Deanna’s blog book tour for her new book The Non-Toxic Avenger: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You. After her son was diagnosed with Asperser’s and her husband with cancer in the same week, Deanna decided to become a human Guiana pig. After body burden testing done to see what, if anything, the chemicals she encountered in her daily life from soup to soap were doing anything to her body. Then she tried to reduce the toxins in her life, had herself retested and compared the results.

Unfortunately, there was a snag and I didn’t get a review copy of the book from the publisher in time to post a review on Condo Blues on my assigned blog book tour day. I read some of the preview excerpt of the book that is available on Amazon but that’s obviously not enough to do a real full-blown book review.

I want to keep my promise to Deanna to get the word out about her book because I liked what little I read and think you might too. However, I never endorse anything I haven’t fully read, tried, or tested on my blog because I owe you that.

Instead, I’m going to turn to my friends from The Green Mom’s Carnival and what they have to say after fully reading The Non-Toxic Avenger: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt You.

"The Non-Toxic Avenger is not a hard-core prescription against toxic chemicals but rather an insightful (and humorous!) look into the challenges of "clean" living in a world without meaningful chemical regulations."
Micaela Preston, author of Practically Green: Your Guide to EcoFriendly Decision-Making and the Mindful Momma blog.

"Deanna's story is not an intangible metaphor that leaves the average mom feel defeated and helpless.  Her's is that of a real woman, with a real family, facing real health challenges.  A concerned consumer struggling to find her way in the murky world of endless toxic chemicals.  Deanna leads us through her journey with refreshing honesty, admitting her own hypochondriac tendencies and imperfections.  With the help of body burden testing and a team of forward-thinking experts, she finds clues about what happens when simple steps are taken to decrease some of the biggest offending chemicals like BPA, flame retardants and triclosan.  And most importantly, Deanna gives credence to the notion that you really can improve your health when armed with the right information and some stick-to-it determination."
Alicia Voorhies, RN, Founder,

Janelle Sorensen, Chief Communications Officer, Healthy Child Healthy World

"Wow! That's the only way to describe Deanna Duke's heart-stopping, eye-popping, head-shaking quest to figure out what toxic chemicals threaten  not only her life and the lives of the people she loves but the lives of each and every one of us as well. Start this book and don't stop until you're done. Yes, you'll cry. But you'll also laugh. And then, hopefully, you'll get busy - clearing out your cupboards, writing to your elected officials, and telling everyone you know that they MUST read this incredible, courageous, inspiring book, too."

When I get my review copy from the publisher, I will do a thorough, real type book review. Promise.
