Apparently this is why Amy Anderson of the blog Mod Podge Rocks! gave me a copy of her book Mod Podge Rocks! Decoupage Your World to review.
First off, even though I used Mod Podge since I was a wee little kid I learned I've been pronouncing it incorrectly since I was a wee little kid. It is not Modge Podge (sorry Mom) but Mod Podge. I also learned through Amy's book that there are many types of Mod Podges out there for archival paper, fabric, outdoor, and dimensional resin other than the classic version I automatically grab from the craft store.
Pros
- There are more to the projects in this book than gluing some paper on a plaque and calling it a craft (my childhood experience with Mod Podge.) While Amy and her contributors frequently makeover new items with Mod Podge, the projects and techniques lend themselves for making over second hand items, most notably the bike helmet and pair of boots. It is the perfect way to personalize a hand me down or thrift store item!
- Mod Podge Rocks! features projects that use Mod Podge in unusual ways such as using it to screen print.
- The Mod Podge screen printing project is a coat for a pug. Husband is making me include this as a Pro because he likes pugs and we are both crazy about dogs. PS: Her name is Roxie and she looks adorable! PPS: that PS part is from me.
- Even though I've been using Mod Podge forever, there are projects and techniques that I had no idea existed.
- Mod Podge is a great way to deuglify and green up items for your home.
Cons
- I wish the book had projects indexed by Mod Podge technique as well as project category - wearable, home decor, and holiday. This might be a personal thing because I am a chronic over detailed indexer when it comes to indexing manuals and elearning courses I create for freelance training projects.
- The book has 40+ projects but I wish there were more. Many of the projects and techniques can translate to what you have and want to do around your home. I'm just greedy I guess.
