Make Solar Milk Jug Ghosts

The rechargeable batteries in the solar garden lights I repainted last summer heaved their last breath.

While I am searching for outdoor rechargeable batteries,  I need something to light the way for the Trick or Treaters.

Luminaries are simple and festive. However, I don’t want to with traditional candles in case the kids accidentally walk into them. Husband says lighting your neighbor’s children on fire is rude. What-ever.

Giveaway Time! Win 6 Months of Wellness Pet Food

I started feeding Blitzkrieg Wellness dog food for September’s One Small Green Change. How is he doing one month later?

Pretty darn well.

TAKE MY PICTURE LISA! Take it! Take it, NOW!

We first fed Blitzkrieg  Wellness Complete Health Super5Mix Chicken Recipe Dog Food. While I like Wellness is wheat, corn, and grain free, Blitzkrieg was not 100% fond of the chicken flavor. After he finished that bag, I bought Wellness Complete Health Super5Mix Limited Ingredients Whitefish & Sweet Potato Recipe at Petsmart. Blitzkrieg likes the whitefish and sweet potato flavor better because his old food was fish and sweet potato flavor. OK, picky peke. Fish it is.

10 Handmade Halloween Costumes for Adults

I am ALL about the costume on Halloween. I don't decorate the house much because I'm usually working on costumes. I start thinking about my costume a least a month or two in advance. I want my costume to be something clever or different or just plain crazy - hopefully all three. Last Halloween's Little Edie from Gray Gardens costume fits the bill. It was super easy to make too. Yay for easy!

STAUNCH!

"Easy for you Lisa," you say, "You know how to sew. I can't sew. I can't make a Halloween costume. I'm just gonna to buy one at the pop up Halloween shop."

Stop right there! You do not need to know how to sew to make a great Halloween costume! Last Halloween I went to a party. I saw tons of clever homemade costumes. Some were home sewn but most, like the Little Edie costume I made were not.

Nine No or Low Sew Halloween Costumes for Adults

My two favorite costumes from last Halloween are Russell and Carl from Up!

"Russell" proudly pointed to the squirrel on his shoulder all night. "Carl" tied helium balloons tied to his cane.

I'm Going to Try to Can Food - Yikes!

October’s One Small Green Change makes me face my fear of canning I wrote about on Lazy Budget Chef. Canzillas have me wigged that if I don’t have all the fancy doo dads of canning, besides new lids, I will kill everyone with botulism.

Husband and I found a cache of wild blackberries on his parent’s farm last summer. With access to as many berries as we could pick, I worked up to canning by making blackberry freezer jam without pectin.

In Condo Blues fashion, those blackberries turned out to be the most expensive bowl of free blackberries we have ever eaten. Husband and I got poison ivy while picking berries. What we got in free we made up for it by making several trips to the drug store to buy poison ivy supplies.

Green Moms Carnival: Green Pet Edition!

Welcome to the Green Pet edition of the Green Moms Carnival! October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month as well as National Pet Wellness Month. I thought of no better way to celebrate than to ask my wonderful friends to share their stories about greening their pets.

Before we start, I want to introduce my guest editor and the inspiration for today’s carnival, my one eyed rescue Pekingese Blitzkrieg!

Photobucket
Hello everyone! I realize Lisa saying I am the guest editor is trite blogging device.
I humor her because she pays me in dog treats to pose for blog photos.

Since it’s National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, let kick off the carnival with…

Clean + Green Pet Cleaner Giveaway

Today is the happiest day of the year!

Better than a birthday.

Better than Christmas.

Today is Blitzkrieg Liberation Day!

Read Condo Blues. It's a good blog because it has pictures of me on it.

Seven years ago today, Husband and I adopted a sad one-eyed stray dog who we eventually named Blitzkrieg. After an abusive home that took his eye, some teeth, caused internal injuries requiring surgery, and time living on the streets, we knew our boy needed a tough guy name. Husband and I considered historical figures and fictional heroes. They didn’t fit until I blurted out, “Blitzkrieg!” after Husband rejected both Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone. That shifted me to think about The Ramones and their song titles. Husband agreed thinking of the historical definition of the term.

It wasn’t until Blitzkrieg knew and responded to his new name that I let Husband know our dog is named after The Ramones song Blitzkrieg Bop.

Heh.heh.heh.

In honor Blitzkrieg Liberation Day, October being National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, AND National Pet Wellness Month. I’m hosting a giveaway!

Scout El Deano Insulated Tote Bag (Review)

I try to group errands to save both time and gas particularly when grocery shopping. I usually hit two stores, sometimes three if I need something from a specialty store or market. I can’t always find what I need at one grocery store.

Fortunately, I have enough reusable shopping bags in the trunk of my car to handle a three stop grocery shopping hop. I want to add a couple of insulated grocery shopping totes to my shopping tote arsenal for frozen fish, meat, and cheese.

Husband requested that the new insulated shopping tote bag be less girly since he helps with the shopping too. No problem! Scout El Deano insulated tote bags  come in bright girly stripes as well as masculine patterns and solids. I the split the Mars Venus difference and road tested a blue insulated tote.

Blitzkrieg verified that Scout’s shipping boxes make great dog beds!

I am Designing My Bathroom Around a Faucet

My new bathroom faucet!
I reorganized the guest bathroom vanity. I like it a bit better. It is allowed to stay in my house. I'm still not excited that my sink and faucet looks exactly like every other bathroom in my neighborhood. I need to do something about that.

I haven't decided what or if I should revamp the vanity or the sink. Knowing me, reworking the vanity/sink will likely snowball into a remodel I’m not quite ready to put on my punch list.

I have no idea what I want in those areas anyway. Except for the bathroom faucet.
