Wood Laminate Floors: Yay or Nay?

I never really thought about the carpeting in my house except for vacuuming dog fur tumbleweeds when Lacey's coat changes for the season and spot cleaning coffee spills because I am a klutz.

Th Great Water Damage Room Renovations is forcing me to think about replacing my bedroom floor covering. The question is with what?  And am I stuck with horrible wood laminate flooring if we don't go with carpet?

We also had to remove part of the carpet pad in the hallway leading to the bedroom too.

I need to choose wisely for the master bedroom floor because we may eventually use that same material to replace the carpeting in the other rooms of the house given the somewhat open layout of the condo.

That means no hardwood because the first floor is build on a concrete slab. You can't install hardwood flooring on a concrete slab unless you want a mess of trouble you have to fix by replacing the hardwood with laminate flooring.

The thing is, I can't find a wood laminate flooring that doesn't look horrible and cheap. I expect less expensive laminate floors to look wretched and they are. I figure that the higher the price tag, the better the laminate right?

No.

Not so much.

At all.

I should have taken photos the bad laminate wood floors I saw in the store with my phone. I can't find any on line photos that truly shows the ugly I experienced in real life. I'm willing to pay for a pretty laminate floor, the problem is finding one.

I don't think it exists because every wood floor I liked was - you guessed it - hardwood. Just look at this floor! It is as stunning in person as it is on line. Is there something with this quality that I can install over a concrete slab?

I want this hardwood floor!

What do you think? Wood laminate floors, yay or nay?
