I was happy to find that plants in five of the ten pots I planted last year came back because most of my perennial herbs (minus my chocolate mint) are decimated by winter weather. The rest of the planters I filled by sprouting vegetables scraps which lead to this year's nickname - Our Garbage Garden.
Share it with your friends!
In the photo above we have golden oregano in the front, followed by chocolate mint, winter savory, cabbage and romaine lettuce sprouts. I've never grown romaine lettuce before. It is supposed to look like that? The other romaine lettuce I planted is much lower to the ground.
More golden oregano. The green plant is a dried kidney bean we found had sprouted in water by the kitchen sink and stuck in dirt to see what would happen. It's growing. That's what's happening! The white twist tops you see in most of my plant pots are self watering planters. The gray IKEA trays act as water saucers for the planters with drainage holes in the bottom of the pot.
The last bit of the garden is more spouted romaine lettuce, sweet fennel, sprouted celery that died (I'm sprouting another to fix the mistakes I did with the first one,) and my only purchase a sweet basil plant because the found basil seeds I first planted were too old and didn't grow. I fertilized the garden with compost and water it with water from our rain barrel - very green living and economical to boot.
I showed you my project, now you show me yours!
