Slow Christmas Ideas and Friday Favorites Linky Party Week 560

Christmas is my favorite time of year because there are so many fun places to go, things to see and performances to do before we get the extended family together for a big, happy celebration on Christmas day!

Except this year. It's a pivot. pivot. Christmas pivot kind of year.

But you know what? I'm enjoying the change.

Wine Advent Calendar
After opening the last couple of days of our DIY wine Advent calendar, I'm starting to understand the appeal of Advent calendars!

  • No quick, wolf down dinner, we have to book it out the door and to an event.

  • No fighting traffic, crowds, or stores because everything is being picked up or delivered to our door (let's give an extra shout and thank you to all postal and delivery drivers. THANK YOU!)

  • There's the chance to put the holiday things you don't always enjoy aside for something new because it's just the household this year. For us, we're going to start our day with mimosas and end it with either fancy lobster tails or super causal homemade pizza for dinner. We haven't decided yet. Which one would do you think we should have for Christmas dinner?

  • No pass the phone around to everyone at the Christmas party phone calls (they drive my husband nuts) because we as a nation are well versed in multi person Zoom, Facetime, and Facebook Video Messenger conference calls. In fact, we're getting together more often through video chat with our friends and family - especially with our loves who aren't local!

  • Being able to give some overplayed holiday movies a rest so the next time we are able to safely gather and that movie is put on a multi day, all day endless loop, it is enjoyable again. Not to mention the incentive to discover new movies and put old ones back into rotation.

  • Board game and movie nights and extra neighborhood walks to enjoy our neighbors Christmas decorations

Best of all is the chance to do new Christmas things like "travel" the US to watch friends and their concert bands give live(ish streaming) holiday concerts! Our concert bands hold Zoom rehearsals. Every member makes a video of them playing their part which is edited into a concert band performance of the song.

I play flute in local and international concert bands. Through Zoom rehearsal I get "see" and play with my out of state BBFs (Best Band Friends) every week!

Last Saturday we "traveled"  Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco  Then we virtually popped down to Florida the following day watch their holiday live(ish) stream with mulled wine in hand and fuzzy slippers on feet. Which, honestly is the best way to watch a Christmas concert, IMHO. I wouldn't like to make every Christmas a social distanced holiday but this one is a nice change.

Time to show off your creative recipes, projects, and ideas!
