I am in Spring Cleaning mode and nothing is safe. I cleaned and organized the garage, reorganized my closet, and tidied the drawers in my nightstand.
During my decluttering binge, I rediscovered some pendent necklaces I haven’t been wearing and my old charm bracelet.
Many of my old necklaces were gifts and have special meaning. I know I don’t need a necklace made from one of my grandfather’s tuxedo buttons to remember him but I don’t want to get rid of it either.

How to Make Reusable Makeup Remover Pads
I use disposable face wipes when I travel for the convenience but once I’m out I forget to buy more until the next time I go on a trip. Besides, I try to limit the amount of one time use disposables I use on a regular basis and let’s face it, wash cloths are reusable and face wipes are not.
Too bad I have a bad habit of by passing the wash cloths at night and not washing the makeup off my face before I go to bed. Why? Laziness I guess.
Fortunately, I found some leftover terry cloth fabric during one of my Spring decluttering and cleaning binges. I turned that into a reusable and green answer for my lazy face washing problem – reusable terry cloth makeup remove pads.

Pin this post for later!

17 Resources that will Motivate You to Declutter and Organize
Winter is a great time to get organized. Since most of us are stuck inside because of the snow and the cold and a little restless, why not use that energy to clean and organize the post Christmas carnage in my craft room, right?

15 Things I am Not Going to Do This Christmas
It amazes me how some folks use Christmas time to make others feel horrible because they have different holiday thoughts, traditions, or celebrate (or not) a different December holiday.
Sadly, I internalize their criticism of the way we do things as not green enough, too generous, too stingy, too religious, not religious enough, too secular, or too fill in the blank. I always let them make me feel sad, angry, and depressed for several days during my favorite time of the year.
This Christmas, I am going to try not to fall into that trap. I can’t change others but I can change how I let others make me feel about myself and how we like to celebrate the holidays.
I will also try to keep my attitude about others in check because fair is fair.

Fearful Dog Behavior Training
One of our favorite ways to socialize a rescue dog with behavioral issues is going to pet rescue events. It is a dog appropriate venue with better behaved dogs, rescue people understand if you ask them to approach your dog in a weird way because you are working on an issue.
They also understand if you have to leave early because your dog is tapped out or has an issue. We learn about new ways to help our dog, support great causes, and it is fun!
The Capital Area Humane Society Halloween Pet Parade is something we look forward to all year. We work up to it by going to smaller dog rescue events throughout the summer. This event can be overwhelming to a dog because there are a lot of people and animals in a small space and costumes are involved.
Some of the people and dog Halloween costumes are clever and amazing. Here are a few of our favorites.

Hey Charlie, do you need help with those bungee cords? I’m feeling a little distracted. Lisa says I should do something to put that energy in a positive direction when I feel this way.

How to Pad and Tape a Color Guard Rifle
The same band I marched with in in the Presidential Inauguration Parade last year has another amazing performance opportunity. I’m stoked to be spinning flag in a real blow and go drum and bugle corps style show since that is absolutely not the type of show my small town marching band did and my drum corps loving heart desired. YES! *fist pump*
Then I found out the color guard is twirling rifle too. I haven’t done that since high school winter color guard.
Gulp!
I bought a color guard rifle which is basically a big hunk of non firing wood in a rifle-esque shape. Before I practice throwing it in the air like I don’t care (as one does when spinning rifle) I need to reinforce the rifle with tape and pad the ends so it won’t break in twoif when I drop it during practice.

How to Make Crutch Covers and Pads
I am diligently going to physical therapy and doing my daily homework exercises to heal my leg injury. My physical therapist is happy with my progress. I hate wearing the boot, but it helps with pain management so well I don’t need to take painkillers that make me loopier than I already am or spend my day with my leg incased in ice bags.
That’s good. It also means I am in The Danger Zone.
I am in that place where I feel better and need to try going without the boot for a little bit each day which makes it easy to overdo it and take a step backwards in the healing process the following day. This is easier to control at home. It may not be so easy when we have houseguests because I know we will do a lot of walking.

19 Homemade Gift Ideas to Pamper Mom on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day almost snuck up on me. It is going to be here before you know it. This year I’m all about the Mother’s Day pampering because I’m gimping around with an anchor on my foot. I’d like some pampering, especially after a physical therapy appointment. I figure all the mom’s out there would like to receive some DIY health and beauty gifts too. It beats a macaroni necklace.
Unless you, dear child reader you made that macaroni necklace for you mother, grandmother, or World’s Most Fabulous Aunt (that’s me.) You have the talent to make macaroni look line fine art and a woman in your life would never dare leave your masterpiece in the car after she wore it out the door on her way to work. Nuh uh. No way.
Let’s start pampering Mom from the tippy top of her head down to her toes!

The Last of the Summer Fun and Lacey Update!
Oh Summer. I wait for you all year long and before you know it – poof! – you are gone.
Our summer got off to a weirdly slow start due to the constant heavy rain. Husband and I tag teamed a few necessary business trips so Lacey would not be face her greatest fear – being left behind.
Lacey’s behavior is not consistent enough to earn the privilege of a vacation or to keep us from being kicked out because of her behavior. Husband and I took long weekend staycations instead because we still need time off to unplug, be silly, and recharge.
We started with short trips to the dog park. Lacey thinks she has to challenge other dogs and get them before they get her - a classic case of Little Dog Syndrome. We keep the dog park trips short so Lacey won’t get overwhelmed.
Just like with human kids, there are well behaved dogs that play well with others and sometimes there are bullies who try to challenge the other dogs or dominate them. It is critical you keep an eye on your dogs at all times to head off any potential problems and be ready to leave to avoid them even if it means you are only there for 15 minutes.
Sometimes we had to leave the park shortly after we arrived with our tail between our legs because our kid was the one whipping the other dogs into a frenzy. It doesn't happen often, and it is part of the process as we puppy step her in the right direction.

How to Make a Juice Pouch Belt
All of the walking I'm doing to burn off Lacey's nervous energy is paying off. My jeans and shorts are too loose in the waist! I haven't lost enough weight to go down a size yet but I have lost just enough weight to make my current pants droop to I-need-to-do-something-about-this levels.
I recently added more empty Go Go squeeZ applesauce squeeze pouches to my craft room stash (I don't care if they are supposed to be kid food. They are fake sugar, GMO, and artificially color and flavor free, made from real apples, and a life saver when I'm traveling lactose intolerant.) Then it hit me - why don't I solve my baggy pants problem and clear out the soon to be painted craft closet by making a belt out of Go Go squeeZ packets?

Project Me
Our ongoing lesson with Lacey is to teach her
Husband and I are her leaders to help build her confidence and help her with
her fear issues.
The big difference between Dog World and Human
World is to be happy, a dog needs a good leader. Not someone who leads by yelling
or hitting but the type of leader who stays calm in a crisis, like an ER nurse.
If a dog doesn't think you are doing the job, it is going to try to take over. Human
World considers this bad behavior but Dog World considers this the way stuff
gets done.
Lacey is trying to be the boss of this pack. It is stressing her out because she knows she isn’t a strong leader. Unfortunately Lacey isn’t cluing in that I am her leader either.
Lacey is trying to be the boss of this pack. It is stressing her out because she knows she isn’t a strong leader. Unfortunately Lacey isn’t cluing in that I am her leader either.
The Dog World Leader always goes first. Lacey
knows her humans walk through doors and up stairs first. She now knows sit,
stay, down, and is pretty good on shake with both voice and hand signals. Husband
and I use these tricks as a way for Lacey to earn positive things (for example
she has to sit so I can put her leash on her for a walk) or to give her
something positive to focus on (and the treat reward) when she thinks something
is scary.
We are having a heck of a time teaching Lacey to
walk by her human’s side and not pull on the leash! This is something we
started working on as soon as Lacey came to live with us and before we started
working with our behaviorist.
We are on Technique #3 to teach Lacey how to
walk on a loose leash. *sigh*
I now understand why some people claim their
dogs are dumb and can’t learn. I don’t think that is true with Lacey. Lacey
walks well with our behaviorist. Lacey doesn’t yank Husband around (unless she
sees a bird) with our new teaching technique but not with me. At all. Lacey, what
is wrong with you?!
